My name is Michael Fitzgibbon and I'm a co-founding partner of the labour and employment law firm Watershed LLP located in Oakville, Ontario. You can read my bio here and my Curriculum Vitae. I have practiced management-side labour and employment law for alomost 20 years.
I have been named in Canadian HR Reporter’sEmployment Lawyers Directory (a Comprehensive Directory of the Top Employment Law and Immigration Law Practitioners in Canada) and, in, by Lawday as a leading Canadian lawyer in the area of labour and employment law. Most recently, I have been recognized as one of Canada's 24 Top Legal Social Media Influencers.
I'm also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto where, for the past 12 years, I have taught labour and employment law at Woodsworth College and have co-authored two books published by Carswell (Understanding Ontario’s Employment Standards Act, 2000 (Carswell, 2002) and An Employer’s Guide to the Acquisition and Termination of Bargaining Rights in Ontario (Carswell, 2001)) and have contributed to a few others.
I write and speak on a wide-range of labour and employment topics at conferences and seminars organized by, for example, the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario (HRPAO), Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC), Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, the Quebec Bar Association, Osgoode Professional Development among others.
I have been interviewed on a variety of labour and employment law issues in magazines and newspapers such as McLean’s, National Post, Toronto Star, Vancouver Province, Computing Canada, Canadian Lawyer, the Lawyers Weekly and the National Magazine (the official publication of the Canadian Bar Association), Canadian HR Reporter, Law Times and have appeared on radio and television.
